Tuscarawas County Community Foundation awards grants

The Tuscarawas County Community Foundation has awarded more than $632,000 in grants this year to over 40 area nonprofit organizations and governmental entities in an effort to improve the quality of life for area residents.  

Fifteen of the grant awards were made from the foundation’s general fund, 13 grants were provided by the Max T. and Erma Miller Donor Advised Fund, six grants were distributed from the AAA Tuscarawas County Donor Advised Fund and three grants were made from the Dennison Community Fund.

The foundation grants, which totaled nearly $110,000 are as follows: Village of Dennison, $6,000 for village hall renovations; Mobile Meals of Dover/New Philadelphia, $5,000 for organizational support; United Way of Tuscarawas County, $15,000 for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library project; Tuscarawas Clinic for the Working Uninsured, $5,000 in support of dental services; Tuscarawas Central Catholic, $3,000 for updated classroom door locks; Indian Valley Schools, $4,000 for completion of new field house and football/track complex project; Historic Schoenbrunn Village, $10,000 for rebuilding the Shebosh cabin; City of Dover, $5,000 for a field turf project at the city park; Harcatus Housing and Weatherization Program, $5,000 for safety equipment for low income residents; Tuscarawas County YMCA, $6,000 toward replacement of a heating and cooling unit for the small pool; Tuscarawas County Literacy Coalition, $1,000 for purchase of books for the “One Book, One Community” project; ARTSNCT, $9,728 for the purchase of a storage barn; RTY, Inc., $10,000 for the Tuscora Park Ferris Wheel Rehabilitation project; Tuscarawas Arts Partnership, $1,700 for assistance with the Artagain Alley project; Kent State University Tuscarawas, $10,000 for the Multi-County Advanced Manufacturing Corridor project; and High School Leadership Scholarships, $14,000 to provide scholarships to deserving area students.  

The 13 grants from the Max T. and Erma Miller Donor-Advised Fund totaled $245,000 and were presented to the following agencies: Trumpet in the Land, $25,000; Rainbow Connection, $10,000; Dress-A-Child, $25,000; Community Hospice, $10,000; New Philadelphia High School Quaker Foundation, $10,000; RTY Park Place Teen Center, $55,000; Buckeye Career Center Foundation, $10,000; Tuscarawas County Council for Church and Community, $10,000; Grace Lutheran Church of Dover, $25,000; Stark and Muskingum Lakes Chapters of the American Red Cross, $15,000; United Way of Tuscarawas County, $35,000; Salvation Army, $5,000; and the Tuscarawas County Historical Society, $10,000. 

Community Hospice received $150,000 and the Salvation Army received $70,000 from the Dr. Leslie Harrold Endowment Fund. The donor advised fund was established following the death of Dr. Harrold in August of 2020.    

Six community grants were provided by the AAA Tuscarawas County Donor Advised Fund. They are as follows: Kent State University Tuscarawas, $10,000 for a Paramedic to Associate Degree in Nursing program; Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Central Ohio, $5,000; the Tuscarawas County Soap Box Derby, $7,500 for derby activities; the Tuscarawas Philharmonic, $15,000 for organizational support; Community Hospice, $5,000 for its emergency transportation fund, and the Village of Bolivar, $5,000 for police cruiser equipment.

The Dennison Community Fund supplied three capital improvement grants to organizations in the village. The Twin City Youth Baseball/PHAC Park was provided with a $2,350 grant; Trinity Hospital  Twin City received a grant for $2,350; and the Dennison Railroad Depot Museum was awarded $4,700.  

The Tuscarawas County Community Foundation was established in 2001 as a community endowment fund.
